Music Monday/Lyric Lundi

It's funny. I hadn't heard this song in ages. Then, I was driving around listening to one of those classic rock stations that I usually don't like (their idea of classic rock is typically very boring. Lots of Journey and the Eagles and Bob Seger. But that's a topic for another blog post), and it came on the radio. Then, I was reading a book, and it was mentioned in the book. I was reminded of a conversation I had a long, long time ago, back when this song was becoming one of my favorites (I paraphrase here. My memory is good for such things, but not that good):

Very Young Emily (VYE) to Much More Knowledgeable Older Sister (MMKOS) : ...but stuck in the middle of what?

MMKOS: I don't know. A card game, I think.

VYE: A card game?

MMKOS: Yes, one guy sitting next to him has clowns. The other has jokers.

VYE: But cards don't have clowns.

MMKOS: They can. A deck of cards can have anything on the back.

So, for years, whenever I heard this song, I imagined a guy sitting at a table playing cards and trying not to fall off his chair. Funny, the video seems to show something very different...

I love memories like that.

Oh my goodness that story is absolutely hilarious. Isn't it funny how we can have such misconceptions surrounding music and lyrics? My college roommate always thought Super Sonic Blonde was soup and salad bar...and I always thought "me and my red corvette" was "making the rent correct" - not quite the same thing but still...

Denise, yes, fun memories, huh?

Court, oh, I have some mixed-up lyrics that are so embarrassing I couldn't even tell anyone. Here's one, though, that's a little less embarrassing from Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets." I thought the line that goes, "She's got electric boots, a mohair suit..." was "She's got electric boobs. Her ma has, too." LOL. But, at that age, I'd never heard of "mohair," and was just beginning to learn about the idea that a boy might think a girl had "electric boobs" she'd inherited from her mother. (And I hope you can tell from this just how embarrassing some of my others were.)

Not sure which is funnier -- your confusion over the lyrics or the cloths and hair styles. Oh my! Did we really dress that way? I haven't been able to sleep this evening, so listening to this started me on a 1 hr tour of songs from mid to late 70's on You Tube. Styles may have been funny, but brought back some memories of my days in high school and college.

Cam, so sorry to hear you were suffering from insomnia, but You Tube is a great place to go when that happens. I'm pretty sure the clothes (and haircuts and everything!) were funnier than my childish questions (but then, I'm always trying to persuade people that Village Idiot hasn't been my life-long title :-)!).
