Painting 10,000 Words

10,000 words in ten pictures from the Key West Vacation. But, you know me, I just have to include a few written words as well.

Scuba diving: the great equalizer. Even Audrey Hepburn would not have looked chic and beautiful in this gear.

Ahhh, that blue, blue water at the Dry Tortugas.

Some nerdy tourists inside Fort Jefferson at the Dry Tortugas.

This is what the (in?)famous Duval Street looks like when the hurricane doesn't hit.

No, Francis, I promise, I was not two-timing you with a Hemingway cat while I was away. Really. All we did was dive...

The butterfly museum was just a tad more spectacular than New York's Museum of Natural History display.

What do you think? It's just begging for a ghost story to be written about it, right?

Another great place for ghosts (puts to shame the thing we call a cemetery behind our home in PA).

And this is the ghost I want to meet!

Hmmm, don't quite know what so say about this one. Anyone have a good caption they'd like to share?

How I love people's holiday photos! You look like you had a wonderful time and I'm impressed by the scuba diving. As for the caption, well, if pirates come up and accost you on a main street, what's a girl to do?

Great photos! I think you look quite chic in your scuba gear. I love the 'I told you I was sick' tombstone! And obviously that last photo proves you were born to be a pirate wench ;)

Lovely photos. I'd love to have a go at scuba diving. I hope you're going to write about it - oh yes and the "haunted house" please.

Litlove, true, what IS a girl to do?

Stef, how about a tres chic pirate wench?

BP, if you'd love to have a go at scuba diving, you ought to go to Key West. It would be a great place for beginners. And maybe I'll just have to write the Key West ghost story for my Things that Go Bump in the Night blog next month.

Looks lovely, Emily and I am impressed that you tamed some pirates. Just what I would expect.

Love the photos! I want to go there. I went to Hawaii twenty years ago, which was paradise, but every vacation I've been on since has been to a major metropolis: Chicago, New York, Paris, etc. No wonder I'm so tense!

I may have mentioned this before, but I'm struck again by your resemblance to actress Mare Winningham. Do you get that a lot? But you also have the coloring and features of a lot of my family members, believe it or not. Sure you don't have some Jewish ancestry back there somewhere?

Photo caption: "Arrr! Emily works for passage of the No Pirate Left Behind Act."

Great pictures--I especially like the scuba-diving one. You mean you haven't told Danny we do have some Jewish ancestry through our Great-Grandmother? "Only brains you've got," she used to say. linser

Danny, that's a GREAT caption! No one's ever told me I look Mare Winningham, but it's a great compliment. I've been told I look like Sissy Spacek and Martha Plimpton. I guess I look like a lot of people. And yes, as my sister notes, we do have plenty of Jewish branches on our family tree.

Linser, I posted that scuba one just for you.

Emily, love the photos. And I agree about your making a tres chic pirate wench. I would probably have gone with something corny like "Arr! It's walk the plank for the two of you!" Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Isn't Key West beautiful? It has been years since I was there but I still remember just how great it was and awesome for pictures.

You looked great in that scuba suit! I loved that tombstone you took a picture of. I wonder if the person who put the tombstone there had a sense of humour...or if the deceased did? That is how to go out in style!

I am thoroughly enjoying reading your blog.

Pete, glad you liked the photos. That's about as original as what I had on my own. At least I'm in good company with my uninspired captions.

PP, thanks for commenting and glad you're enjoying my blog. I hope you didn't discover it hoping to find out anything about telecommuting. I'll have to check yours out in detail now.

Court, Lancaster County before Key West!

Good one.
